The "Three Sisters" are arguably Alberta's most recognizable mountains outside the national parks. Based in Canmore, the mountain's summit was originally called the "Three Nuns". However, in 1886, Canadian geologist George Dawson referred to each summit individually as "Big Sister", "Middle Sister" and "Little Sister". The mountain then evolved to become "Three Sisters".
