Among the best gins in the world

Quebec is indeed a major producer of quality gin, and it's very important to support local products. However, we'd like to draw your attention to a variety of highly regarded gins from around the world.

Although gin originated in the Netherlands or the United Kingdom, it can be found all over the world. In fact, gin has become increasingly popular in recent years, which may explain why so many countries have decided to produce it.

Here are 10 well-known gins that caught our attention and that would be interesting to find on your shelves.

  1. Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin (Germany)

Based on a recipe dating back to 1960, this renowned gin was developed by Alexander Stein in 2008. It is made from 47 plants and herbs, hence its name, and its taste is characterized by notes of fresh lemon, delicate floral and aniseed notes.

  1. Aviation Gin Oregon (United States)

This dry gin, produced in Oregon, originally originated from the Aviation cocktail. The flavor is less strongly juniper-flavored than some other gins. In addition to juniper berry, this smooth gin is flavored with lavender, orange zest, cardamom, coriander, Indian sarsaparilla, and anise.

  1. Hendrick's Gin (United Kingdom)

This Scottish gin is known for its aromas of rose, cucumber, and violet blended with eleven fine herbs, creating a well-balanced gin. This spirit pairs well with both floral and spicy flavors.

  1. Roku Japanese Gin (Japan)

This gin has enjoyed unexpected success around the world. It is composed, among other things, of a combination of Japanese botanicals. Upon tasting, one immediately notices lemony notes, followed by cherry blossoms (Sakura), and finally, Sansho pepper, which enhances the flavor. This is a gin that blends very well with ginger.

  1. Gin Mare Distilled Gin (Spain)

An excellent summer gin created using traditional Mediterranean techniques through delicate maceration. This spirit features notes of thyme, basil, rosemary, and arbequina olives, which give it an exceptional flavor, especially when blended with other flavors. A very interesting choice if you enjoy gins with a variety of flavors.

  1. Star of Bombay Dry Gin (UK)

Crafted by the botanists at Bombay Sapphire in England, this spirit's unique and delicious flavor comes from the steamed infusion of eight plants. On the palate, it offers a noticeable sweetness from its composition of ambrette seeds and bergamot peel. It's perfect as a gin and tonic, flavored with orange zest, mint, or ginger.

  1. Plymouth Traditional Sloe Gin (UK)

Winner of the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2011 , this gin is made with juniper berries of course, but also coriander seeds, orange and lemon zest, angelica, cardamom, iris and sloes which give it a velvety, natural and acidic taste.

  1. Gordon's Sloe Gin (United Kingdom)

A refined and fruity gin infused with sloe berries for a sweet note. It also features a light flavor of blackcurrant, fig, cinnamon, clove, and almond. Perfect in cocktails, as a gin and tonic alternative, or simply on its own.

  1. Generous Gin (France)

French artisanal gin made with natural ingredients including juniper berry, citrus, mandarin, red pepper, jasmine, and elderflower. The flavors are all harmonious, creating a good length on the palate. However, it's a rather full-bodied gin, so it's a little less versatile.

  1. Citadelle No Mistake Old Tom Gin (France)

A spiced gin crafted over a 90-day period. Cubeb, a spice native to Southeast Asia, stands out on the nose, with notes of stewed raisins, oranges and lemons, cinnamon, then coriander seeds and toasted cassia. This is a warmer gin that's perfect for winter.

Hoping to have introduced you to some new gins that might interest you.

Enjoy your meal!
